Te Henga is a coastal community located in West Auckland, New Zealand. Its Māori name, “Te Henga,” refers to the long foredunes that run along the beach, resembling the gunwale of an upturned waka hull. This picturesque black sand beach lies approximately 37 km (23 mi) west of Auckland City, where the Waitakere River flows into the Tasman Sea. Te Henga boasts scores of black sand dunes and offers popular attractions such as surfing, bush walks, parasailing, fishing, and sunbathing. However, swimmers should exercise caution, as it is rated the 4th most dangerous beach in New Zealand due to strong rips and currents. Despite its challenges, Te Henga experiences a population surge during summer, drawing thousands of visitors who appreciate its natural beauty and rugged charm
