"Ngawi Bulldozers"
- 135 x 45 cm

Ah, Ngawi… what a place it is. Nestled near Cape Palliser, the southernmost point of New Zealand’s North Island, this charming small fishing village has a special place in my heart. The name “Ngawi” translates to “the native tussock grass” in Māori, a fitting name for a place so deeply connected to the land and sea. But let me tell you about the bulldozers. In the 1920s, Ngawi was primarily an overnight anchorage for fishing boats from Wellington. The rough seas and lack of a proper wharf made it challenging to launch and retrieve boats. So, the locals, with their typical Kiwi ingenuity, started using bulldozers. Today, dozens of these machines, each with its own rusted trailer, line the steeply sloping beach. They’re often painted in bright colors and have become an iconic part of Ngawi’s landscape. It’s a testament to the resourcefulness of the Ngawi community and adds to the village’s charm and character.

The scent of lavender fills the air, A calming balm amidst the scare, As storm clouds gather, dark and high, Lavender stands, defying the sky. In nature’s clash of calm and wild, The fields remain serene and mild, A testament to beauty’s might, In stormy days and darkest night.
